The break-even rule

After raising your rate by x%, you can lose x ÷ (1 + x) of your work and still earn the same. A 15% increase breaks even even if you lose 13% of billable hours — and you get that time back for sales, learning or rest. Most freelancers lose far fewer clients than they fear. Read how to raise your rates for scripts and timing.

FAQ

How often should freelancers raise rates?

At least yearly to keep up with inflation, and whenever you are consistently fully booked.
