Formulas

A 50% markup is only a 33.3% margin. Freelancers reselling software, stock assets, printing or subcontracted work often quote a markup but think in margins — which leaves less profit than expected. Check whole projects with the profit margin calculator.

FAQ

Is a 100% markup a 100% margin?

No — a 100% markup (doubling cost) is a 50% margin. Margin can never reach 100%.

Which should I use for pricing?

Decide the margin you need, then convert it to a markup to set the price.
